The final plan incorporated a series of multi-functional recreational areas for a broad array of community events, a loop trail system and an extension of a regional trail with trailhead, various picnic areas and shelters, an amphitheater, children’s playground, and a restored and enhanced river shoreline. The master plan was themed upon the historic land uses and the river as the centerpiece for a variety of historical and cultural exhibits to be woven into various recreational areas of the site. The master plan was completed in 2004. First phases of the improvements started in 2006.

Project Overview: Brauer & Associates was commissioned by the City of Inver Grove Heights to undertake a design process for a controversial piece of property along the Mississippi River that was converted over to park land after prior railroad uses. A task force of members of the community were involved throughout the design process, which provided a broad mixture of ideas during the planning stages, and the end result was a cohesive blend of recreational amenities that best served the community.
