Project Overview: Brauer & Associates, Ltd. was commissioned by Carver County to develop a comprehensive master plan for Lake Waconia Regional Park, which was brought about by the realignment of Highway 5 and County Road 30 and allowed for the expansion of the regional park to encompass approximately 100 acres. The vision behind the master plan was to rehabilitate some of the previous natural conditions on the site, such as a pond area that once existed close to the shoreline, as well as manage and enhance existing natural resources on the site, and then integrate these widely varying resources into the recreational development plan. The park features public access to Lake Waconia for boating, swimming and snowmobiling, as well as group and individual camping, a series of loop trail systems, connection to a regional trail, and various gathering areas with shelters. The master plan was completed in 2001. Portions of the master plan have been implemented in phases, including a sledding hill, restoration of the old roadway alignments, and an improved / redeveloped beach area with plans for implementation of a children’s play area.
