Project Overview: The City of Eden Prairie set aside land for conservation areas back in the 1970’s. In 2005 the city retained Brauer & Associates to undertake an extensive public process involving multiple citizen task force groups to develop master plans for nature trails through Edenbrook, Riley Creek, and Lower Purgatory Creek Conservation Areas. The master plan was completed in 2005. Construction is being implemented in phases and started in 2006. The master plan process included citizens in the evaluation and decision making process, ultimately producing an outcome that gained extensive community support for implementation. Key to the success of the project was listening to residents concerns about trail alignments relative to the homes and their individual perceptions about safety. To alleviate any concerns, Brauer & Associates met with residents as requested to review their issues first-hand, gaining their confidence that the city was concerned about personal values while at the same time keeping the community’s overall best interest in mind.
