Project Overview: The City of Bemidji selected Brauer & Associates, Ltd. to prepare a master plan for a very historic, and highly used park site located in the heart of the city right along the shoreline of Lake Bemidji. The site was previously inhabited by at least four different prehistoric cultures, whose artifacts can still be found on the site today, so the master plan had to be respectful of the historical and cultural significance. The site is also located adjacent to Bemidji State University’s stadium and is currently used for athletic event parking. Recreational amenities that exist in the park consist of a beach area, children’s playground, boat launch, and various picnic areas.

A vision was created for the park during the planning process with the intent to reinvigorate the park to carefully meet the recreational demands of today, while restoring the historical and cultural significance of the site, in order to create a prime park in the city, as its name reflects. The master plan was completed in 2006 and construction was completed in the fall of 2007.
